Every day a new business is established somewhere, and it requires a license, which is usually issued by the local government. State filings are also required. A new business license is issued for a new company or an existing company that’s new to the locality. Some localities also require registration of home-based businesses.

If you sell a basic business product or service, new business listings may be an excellent source for you. Since most of these companies are small and new, their resources may be limited. Opportunities created by new businesses include business insurance, website design and hosting, Internet and telecommunications, credit card processing, computers, printing and design, and office supplies.

Also, remember the business owner or group of owners behind every new business license. They may have unique needs for financial services, including insurance, automobile leasing, equipment leasing, tax preparation, and legal advice.

New business licenses are often listed in the Monday business section of local newspapers. You may also purchase new business lists from some of the suppliers named in #44 -- list, database, & directory companies.
